An estimated 900 mourners attended the June 4 funeral for fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, including President Nicholas Sarkozy and first lady Carla Bruni (who modeled for the designer at one time), actress Catherine Deneuve, and designers Vivienne Westwood, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Valentino, and John Galliano.

The funeral was held at Saint-Roche church near the Louvre.

French fashion legend Yves Saint Laurent died late Sunday at his home in Paris. Battling illness throughout most of his life, the designer succumbed to a brain tumor at the age of 71.

Yves Saint Laurent’s 40-year career revolutionized the way women dressed, introducing menswear to women’s fashion putting women in pants and tuxedos.
