In one week, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week will begin in New York City’s Bryant Park, kicking off other fashion weeks in London, Milan and Paris.
The event will stretch from September 5th to the 12th and feature such designers as Michael Kors, Diane von Furstenberg, Carolina Herrera, Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang, Zac Posen, Betsey Johnson, and DKNY who will be showcasing their Spring 2009 collections.

Model.Live follows the lives of three models from their hometowns all the way to their fashion week debuts. They strut the runways of Milan, Paris, New York and London and you’ll get backstage access. The made-for-web series is a collaboration between Vogue and modeling agency IMG and airs on Bebo and Vogue.tv. New episodes air Fridays for 12 weeks. After the show, viewers can interact with models and view their video diaries, blogs, photos and text messages.

“I was surprised to wake up this morning and read news of my own retirement. While I am taking some time off currently to rest and enjoy the company of friends and family, I am still very much an excited and enthusiastic working model and actress.”
Her agency, IMG confirmed that she’s taking time off through the end of September.

Rumors are floating that top international runway and print model Gemma Ward may be retiring form the runway to pursue an acting career. The Australian born beauty has appeared in only a handful of fledgling movies such as The Strangers with Liv Tyler and The Black Balloon where she was given rave reviews for her acting skills.

Lucy Liu has teamed with Harper’s Bazaar to create a fashion spread in honor of the ongoing 2008 Olympic Games. Vogue, Adidas and Polo among others also created Olympic themed ads, clothing lines and fashion spreads to follow the crowd. Harper’s spread demonstrates that is doesn’t matter whether you win or lose, it’s how you dressed that counts.

Just under a year after her Little Black Book of Style hit bookstores, Nina Garcia will release another style guide: The One Hundred: A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own.
The book’s mission is to introduce women to 100 essential items that will solidify their wardrobe and enable them to feel classic.
The book hits stores August 26.

Maybe she spent hours deciding on what to wear for this McDonald’s event. Unfortunately, in her eagerness to impress, this socialite makes a major faux pas, stepping out in an overloaded bikini top and open safari jumper. And need we mention the fedora? This may have a chance of working if she was hitting the beach, but overall, this disaster needs way more chic and much less cheap.

Other celebrities such as Donald Trump, Martha Stewart, Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein have also posed for ads taken by famed Rolling Stone photographer Mark Seliger that will be released between now and the department store’s birthday.
