The first shots of Katie Holmes’ much-anticipated ad campaign for Miu Miu have been released and the actress looks stunningly beautiful in what the company calls a “moment of spectacular drama.”

“Katie Holmes joins the ever-expanding living history of Miu Miu inspirations, vital and modern individuals that shape and alter their surroundings through powerful grace,” said the company’s rep.

Katie’s strong bone structure always photographs well and the sepia tone of the ad delivers a cool, vintage feel. Shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott in New York last November, the ads were inspired by Italian director Fellini, and hoped Katie would appear to be a “luminous icon radiating a sense of mystery and theatricality.”

Victoria’s Secret supermodel Karolina Kurkova has been voted the World’s Sexiest Woman by E! television, a mere five months after being bashed as “too fat” to walk the runway. Kurkova, 24, beat out fellow Victoria’s Secret supermodels Adriana Lima, Heidi Klum, Gisele Bündchen, as well as Oscar winner Angelina Jolie.

Kurkova, a leggy 5′11″ Czech supermodel, was recently ranked by Forbes magazine as one of the world’s highest paid models, raking in an estimated $5 million in 2007. Bündchen, 28, topped that list, with estimated 2007 earnings of $35 million.

At the recent show in Miami, 35 supermodels took part in a fabulously opulent extravaganza, with most of them dripping in feathers, lace, sequins and expensive jewels.

Heidi Klum wore underwear joined by a web of diamonds plus sparkling red wings made to resemble a bow on a present. Adriana Lima coolly strutted down the runway in the Black Diamond Fantasy Miracle Bra- worth 5 million dollars. The bra is decorated with white and black diamonds and rubies and will be for sale in the Victoria’s Secret catalogue.

Usher kick off Saturday’s events at the newly renovated Fontainebleau Miami Beach. Other spotted on the pink carpet included Paris Hilton, P Diddy, actor John Stamos, Kim Kardashian and Martha Stewart.

Who says that fashion and politics don’t mix? Today, politics are entering the world of fashion. Political phrases and slogans are gracing items of clothing that advertise specific candidates or political issues. Obama made his most recent appearance on the runways of Paris in the Jean-Charles de Castelbajac show. The candidate’s face can be seen on a sporty yellow sequined dress among other pieces.

Some famous fashion designers including Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs, Rag & Bone, Vera Wang and Derek Lam also designed merchandise for Obama’s official online store.

Paris designers walked fabulous rainbow bursts of color down the runway this past week during Paris Fashion Week. It’s all about the deep hues this season, especially the rich jewel tones of amethyst, emerald and sapphire. French designer Sonia Rykiel celebrated her 40 years in fashion by sending dozens of models twirling down the catwalk in brightly colored silks. Christian Lacroix let loose with a riot of clashing patterns, while Esteban Cortazar went tropical at Emanuel Ungaro.

In one week, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week will begin in New York City’s Bryant Park, kicking off other fashion weeks in London, Milan and Paris.

The event will stretch from September 5th to the 12th and feature such designers as Michael Kors, Diane von Furstenberg, Carolina Herrera, Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang, Zac Posen, Betsey Johnson, and DKNY who will be showcasing their Spring 2009 collections.

Model.Live follows the lives of three models from their hometowns all the way to their fashion week debuts. They strut the runways of Milan, Paris, New York and London and you’ll get backstage access. The made-for-web series is a collaboration between Vogue and modeling agency IMG and airs on Bebo and Vogue.tv. New episodes air Fridays for 12 weeks. After the show, viewers can interact with models and view their video diaries, blogs, photos and text messages.

The model says:

“I was surprised to wake up this morning and read news of my own retirement. While I am taking some time off currently to rest and enjoy the company of friends and family, I am still very much an excited and enthusiastic working model and actress.”

Her agency, IMG confirmed that she’s taking time off through the end of September.
